Barley Crusher +1 Great mill backed by great customer service. Before I motorized it I was using a drill and accidentally dropped it, bending the shaft. Called them to see how much a replacement would cost - he said to just send it it and he would fix it free of charge. Crushingly good service (sorry).

the barley crusher has a 5lb hopper on it that I'm guessing governs the rate at which barley actually reaches the mill. I've been using the same drill at the fastest speed of the lower setting. in other words the drill has 60 settings, 30 speeds per gear?. I usually put the 4 or 5 lbs in the hopper before turning on the mill.

I used to work with equipment that would have made great designs for a grain mill. It was designed for continuous use, so it was built to last. While I run my grain mill about only 5 or 10 minutes once or twice a month, the cost of making a decent mill over the cost of a Barley Crusher couldn't be more than a few bucks.

Just a short history about that Barley Crusher. When I started my home brew store years ago I only had my Barley Crusher to mill grain with. I had had it for about 3-4 years prior crushing only my grain at home. I started the store and needed a crusher but didn't have the $$ to buy a real good industrial one so I used it.

I have a barley crusher brand 2 row mill. I've been having some issues getting it to mill recently.. I adjust the gaps, fiddle with it a bit and eventually it starts pulling grain. I brew 10 Gals at a time, probably average 10 brews a year. I do brew with a bit of wheat, but it is always mixed in. Usually 25-35 lbs of grain, no corn etc..
